On May 24, 2023, the EU Commission published the long-awaited retail investment strategy. A complete ban on kickbacks and inducements in the securities and insurance business is off the table for the time being. Nevertheless, the new regulation will have drastic effects on financial service providers and investors: Among other things, the retail investment package provides for a commission ban on the sale of investment products if no advice is given:
Johannes Wirtz, partner at global law firm Bird & Bird specializing in banking regulation, and Max Biesenbach, partner at global strategy consultancy Simon-Kucher, provide a legal as well as commercial assessment:
- What does the retail investment package mean from a legal perspective?
- What are the commercial implications for retail banks, private banks and online brokers?
- How should retail banks, private banks and online brokers adapt their revenue model and what international best practices can serve as a blueprint?
This event is free of charge.
