As an ESG Captain, Christopher Larem brings sustainability and social impact to life at one of our offices in Germany. From bottle cap collections to global collaboration, he continues to drive meaningful change with dedication and purpose.

At Simon-Kucher, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) topics are of global importance – but they can only make a real difference when brought to life locally. That’s why our ESG Captains act as local ambassadors, turning our shared vision into meaningful, on-the-ground initiatives in our offices around the world.

From organizing blood drives and charity runs to leading food and clothing donations, and cleaning local canals, ESG Captains help turn our values into action. They foster a global network of like-minded colleagues across offices, working together to raise awareness and make a positive change.

Today, we’re excited to introduce Christopher Larem, Group Travel Manager and one of our ESG Captains in Bonn, Germany, who’s been driving ESG forward with creativity, commitment, and a strong sense of purpose.

What motivated you to become an ESG Captain for your office?
Christopher: In my role as Travel Manager, I work very closely with the ESG team at Simon-Kucher. I wanted to deepen this collaboration in my role as ESG Captain. I am also interested in ESG topics personally, not least because of my role as a father of two.

What’s something unique or special about ESG efforts in our Bonn office?
Christopher: There’s a great sense of collaboration and cooperation among colleagues in the office, and they are equally committed to ESG issues. For instance, we proactively collect bottle caps in the office for a good cause, which are regularly passed on to an organization that sells them every year and donates the proceeds to a charitable cause. As a group, we collect almost a 100kg every year!

What’s been the most rewarding or inspiring part of being an ESG Captain so far? Christopher: What inspires me most is the exchange with other ESG captains from all over the world. The cultural and social differences and similarities enrich our company anew every day.

What’s your favorite sustainability tip or habit, something you personally live by? Christopher: Don't throw crown caps in the bin, collect them! And apart from that, I try to cycle as much as possible, which also keeps me fit.

If you could launch any ESG initiative tomorrow (no budget limits!), what would it be? Christopher: All Simon-Kucher employees may work as many hours as they wish for charitable projects in return for full payment from our employer.
