Putting ESG into practice: Meet Ryan, ESG Captain in our New York office

ryan

As an ESG Captain, Ryan brings sustainability and social impact to life in our New York office. From building ongoing partnerships with nonprofit organizations to launching seasonal initiatives like an annual toy drive, he continues to create structured opportunities for ESG engagement.

At Simon-Kucher, we drive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives both globally and locally. Our employees put ESG ambitions into practical action. One of them is Ryan Monahan, a Senior Manager in our New York office, who serves as an ESG Captain.

Ryan continues to build ongoing partnerships with nonprofit organizations and has introduced seasonal initiatives like an annual toy drive, a holiday-time effort where employees donate new, unwrapped toys that are distributed to children in need through local charities. His efforts focus on creating structured opportunities that enable the team to contribute to the local community while strengthening connections among colleagues.

Today, we're excited to share more about Ryan and his work.

What’s your name, role at Simon-Kucher, and where are you based?

Ryan: My name is Ryan Monahan, and I am a Senior Manager at Simon-Kucher based in our New York office. I focus on the firm’s Industrials practice and have been with the company for three years.

What motivated you to become an ESG Captain for your office?

Ryan: I was motivated to become an ESG Captain because I’ve always been passionate about volunteering. I began organizing volunteer events for our team in 2024, which naturally led to stepping into the ESG Captain role when it was formalized. I love that these events bring our people together while giving back to the community we’re part of.

What’s something unique or special about ESG efforts in your location?

Ryan: What’s special about it is how we tap into the city’s seasonal opportunities and local partnerships. Over the past three years, we’ve volunteered with two local organizations on a recurring basis, which helps us build lasting connections. We also hold an annual toy drive and gift-wrapping competition during the holidays, which brings out our team’s spirit and generosity in a fun way.

What’s been the most rewarding or inspiring part of being an ESG Captain so far?

Ryan: The most rewarding part has been creating opportunities for our team to connect and give back as a collective. It’s great to see colleagues build stronger bonds while making a positive impact locally.

If you could launch any ESG initiative tomorrow (no budget limits!), what would it be?

Ryan: If I could launch any ESG initiative tomorrow, I’d organize an office-wide volunteer day where everyone is able to dedicate time to give back locally. It would be a chance for the whole team to step away from our desks and make a meaningful impact together.
